Real-world durability can vary based on the coated surface and its environment, but for context, top lanolin oil-based coatings generally measure around 200 salt spray hours, and Nyalic (a popular anti-corrosion coating) has a rating of 1,000 hours.

In comparison, IGL Aegis far exceeds these benchmarks. If undamaged, it can likely last the lifetime of a road-driven vehicle, even one that occasionally goes off-road—well beyond 30 years.

IGL Aegis Catalyst should be used in cold weather conditions when the curing of IGL Aegis need acceleration.

IGL Catalyst is an additive to be used with IGL Aegis that speeds up the curing time considerably. It is not a stand alone product and must be used in combination with IGL Aegis AE1 and AE2.

IGL Aegis is an elastomer, meaning it offers both hardness and flexibility. This unique property comes from chemical catalysts within the formula, rather than heat, driving the curing process. When applied correctly, the coating becomes tack-free (no longer sticky) within about 12 hours, so it won’t transfer to your finger or pick up dirt. Within 24 to 36 hours, it reaches a hardness that allows safe handling. Over seven days, it continues to harden, achieving full chemical resistance in about 30 days.

Vehicles coated with IGL Aegis can typically be driven on normal roads the following day. However, for heavy machinery or 4x4 vehicles that will see gravel or rough terrain, we strongly recommend a curing period of at least two weeks—ideally four—before subjecting the coating to harsher conditions.
