Frequently Asked Questions
What is a surface coating and how does it work?
IGL’s surface coatings, including paint protection coatings are chemical compounds designed to cross link and adhere to a desired surface and provide a desired outcome at a nano molecular level be it to protect against elements, enhance appearance, resist staining or to kill virus and bacteria. These chemical compounds and their associated benefit vary depending on the surface to be coated and the desired outcome. In simple, it is the nanotechnology solution for our customers big problems!
What are the benefits of applying IGL Paint Protection?
There are numerous benefits to having your vehicle, marine craft or equipment coated with IGL’s paint protection coatings. These benefits range from resistance to chemical etching and degradation, resistance from UV damage, resistance to dirt and grime and considerable ease of washing and maintenance.
How long do coatings last?
IGL’s surface coatings are designed to be hard wearing and durable. Depending on the particular coating, the environment that it is exposed to and how you maintain the coating you can expect IGL’s coatings to last from many months to many years and even decades in the example of IGL Aegis. For specific durability expectancy please view the TDS (Technical Data Sheet) for the IGL Coating or product that interests you!
Can I apply the coating myself?
At IGL we have coatings that suit a broad range of applicators and skill levels. Coatings available to the public are relatively easy to use and require minimal specialised training whilst our certified applicator only coatings require specialised training, documentation and handling.
What surfaces can be coated?
We have developed various surface coatings engineered to adhere to and perform to the specified surface. We have coatings for various types of paint, glass, metals, fabrics, plastics, leather and vinyl as well as dedicated coatings for use in disease and pollution control. So yes, we can almost coat anything with IGL!
How can I maintain my vehicle after having it coated?
The best thing you can do to maintain your vehicle is to wash it regularly and as required with IGL’s recommended after care products. To assist you in this process please refer to the paint care guide provided to you by your applicator or visit the link for a how to wash tutorial
Is car paint protection the same as car wax?
Whilst traditional wax and paint protection have a slightly similar benefit (being water resistance) they are chemically vastly different. Wax is oil based and will wear off with both exposure to the elements and physical washing where IGL’s coatings are resin based nano technology engineered to bond to the paint at a molecular level providing superior protection, durability and hydrophobic properties than any wax.
How often should I reapply paint protection or surface coatings?
We believe that every single surface, environment and owner are unique and as such we believe that coatings should be re-applied when the customer feels the need to. Our durability ratings are a guide based on laboratory testing to ASTM standards in standardised conditions where in real life conditions coatings may very be different based on your specific environment and usage.

Why are some coatings restricted to IGL Certified Applicators only?
IGL’s professional range of coatings like any specialised trade tool is designed to work well when applied correctly. To ensure IGL’s high quality standards are maintained for both performance of the coating and customer service/satisfaction our professional coatings are exclusively available through our Certified Applicator Network. These applicators are highly skilled registered and insured businesses that have met our strict requirements to correctly apply our professional coatings.
Do IGL Coatings offer training?
Yes, we have a comprehensive online training academy covering all aspects of the production, application, management and sales of our coatings as well as a dedicated online detailing academy. We also offer in person group training in various locations throughout Australia.
